The annual cutting of the New Year's Cake took place at the Oinofyta Health Centre, attended by representatives of the state and local government, on Monday 13 January 2025; during the event, the new microbiology lab was inaugurated, and its valuable donors were presented with awards.
The event was an opportunity to recognize the long-standing support of institutions and companies that have been instrumental in upgrading the region's health services. ElvalHalcor stood out among the honorees, being a major donor, given that it has substantially contributed to the Health Center (KY) by providing equipment, infrastructure and maintenance services.
As Ioannis Koufopanos, R&D Project Evaluation Director of Elval, Aluminium Rolling Division of ElvalHalcor, underlined: "For ElvalHalcor, corporate responsibility means action. Supporting healthcare in our community is not just a responsibility but a commitment.. Our ongoing commitment and support by providing essential equipment, laboratory machinery, and maintenance services has proven to be crucial in enhancing the Center’s infrastructure and services offered.. This recognition reaffirms that our contribution has a meaningful and lasting tangible impact on society." I. Koufopanos added that "ElvalHalcor is actively on the side of the local community, as demonstrated in practice with the Oinofyta Health Center", noting that: "ElvalHalcor is consistently attentive to the needs of the greater region in areas such as health, education, culture, sports and infrastructure. We maintain open communication with local organisations and associations, supporting the important work they do." Concluding his short speech, I. Koufopanos noted that: "ElvalHalcor's economic and social footprint in Greece exceeds the standard performance of a major industry. Our Company significantly contributes to local entrepreneurship by supporting our local suppliers and employment. For this reason, it is worth pointing out that 56% of our workforce coming from the local communities. At ElvalHalcor, we consider sustainable growth, job security, and social progress to be core pillars of our business strategy."
On her part, the Coordinator of Scientific Operations at the Oinofyta Health Center, Christina Mandi, warmly thanked ElvalHalcor for its long-standing support of the Health Center, since, as she pointed out "ElvalHalcor has been our supporter and companion during the difficult years of the pandemic."
ElvalHalcor was awarded, among other things, for the donation of the now certified antimicrobial copper coating of the Oinofyta Health Center, a pioneering method for Greece and a revolutionary method of antimicrobial armour worldwide, which makes the Health Center a completely safe environment of health provision for citizens and employees. Mr. Panos Efstathiou, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Scientific Advisor of the Hellenic Copper Development Institute, also spoke on the subject; referring to the operation of the Centre, he underlined that it is one of the most organised bodies in our country. In fact, he pointed out that: "The Center’s antimicrobial armour enables us to nominate it to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for the 2025 Awards, which will be a great honour for the region." Moreover, Nikos Vergopoulos, General Director of the Copper Institute, praised the high level of synergy with the Oinofyta Health Center, and stated that: "The Hellenic Copper Development Institute, through the application of antimicrobial copper, supports initiatives based on the social benefit, and is always willing to continue the expansion of the application at the Oinofyta Health Center with a research study that will also prove the reduction of infections at the Centre."
The event concluded with extending warm thanks to all those who support the operation of the Oinofyta Health Center, enhancing the provision of quality health services to the citizens of the region.
