Managing transportation efficiently is essential for industrial groups with large production volumes, strong export activity and complex supply chains. To support this need, the Viohalco companies are rolling out SAP Transportation Management (TMS), a digital system that improves how transportation is planned, monitored and controlled across operations.
The SAP TMS project, implemented by Teka Systems, is already live and operating at Sofia Med and other Viohalco companies (Corinth Pipeworks, Sidenor, Sovel, Erlikon, Aeiforos), while its implementation is currently underway at Elval. Once fully deployed, the system will help standardize transportation processes across the companies and improve visibility and cost control.
SAP TMS brings all transportation activities into a single digital platform. It covers the full transportation process — from planning routes and selecting carriers, to tracking shipments and managing costs — across all transport modes, including road, sea, rail and air. The system is fully connected with existing SAP ERP systems, ensuring that logistics data is consistent with production, sales and financial information.
One of the key benefits of SAP TMS is the creation of common transportation processes across the Viohalco companies. Using the same system allows better coordination between Viohalco companies, improves cooperation with logistics partners and makes it easier to compare performance and identify improvements.
The system also provides real-time visibility of shipments, allowing teams to monitor transportation flows end to end and respond quickly to delays or disruptions. At the same time, built-in optimization tools support better route planning and carrier selection, helping reduce transportation costs and improve delivery performance.
SAP TMS offers strong reporting and analytics capabilities, giving management a clearer picture of logistics performance, costs and trends. This supports better decision-making and continuous improvement in transportation efficiency. In addition, the system serves as a common platform for managing transportation-related insurance and settlement processes.
Α successful implementation of TMS is in place at Viexal S.A. -Viohalco companies exclusive in-house supply chain provider- where the system’s value is being demonstrated in a demanding logistics environment. Viexal handles the transportation of more than 1.2 million tones of exported products each year to 100 countries, as well as significant volumes of imported raw materials, using a mix of transport modes. SAP TMS supports this complexity by connecting carriers, transportation networks and customers through a single digital system.
As the implementation progresses at Elval, SAP TMS is expected to further strengthen logistics efficiency, transparency, and control. Overall, the project supports ElvalHalcor’s broader digital transformation efforts and contributes to improved cost management, stronger export capability and more resilient supply chains.
