Elval, participated in the Industry Workshop for the European Combat Vessel (ECV)

Elval, the aluminium rolling division of ElvalHalcor, participated in the European Combat Vessel (ECV) Industry Workshop, held from 5–7 May 2026 in San Fernando (Cádiz), Spain. The workshop was organised by the European Defence Agency (EDA), with the support of SEA Europe (Shipyards' & Maritime Equipment Association of Europe).

The workshop followed the public release of the European Combat Vessel High-Level Requirements (HLR) in January 2026 and brought together representatives from EU Member States, leading European shipyards, maritime stakeholders, Tier 1 and Tier 2 defence industry companies. The event focused on the future development of the ECV programme and on strengthening cooperation across the European defence ecosystem.

The European Combat Vessel is not just one ship, but a family of defence vessels built around shared technologies and advanced naval capabilities to enhance European maritime security. It is one of Europe’s most ambitious collaboration initiatives, aiming to develop a next-generation, modular family of naval platforms. Developed under the EDA framework and aligned with European defence and NATO objectives, the programme seeks to enhance operational capability, industrial integration and standardisation across Europe.

Elval presented the capabilities of aluminium rolled products as a mature, certified and sustainable solution for advanced naval shipbuilding applications, in reference to Work Package 5 (WP5), dedicated to hull and superstructure design, as well as construction materials.

Representing Elval at the workshop, Christos Klianis, Sales Senior Manager, highlighted the role of aluminium in meeting critical programme requirements, including modular construction, weight reduction, lifecycle optimisation, corrosion resistance, and energy efficiency.

The presentation was followed by a technical Q&A session with Dimitrios Kortselis, Product Development Senior Manager, where discussions focused on interoperability, industrial capability, and the growing importance of aluminium solutions in next-generation naval platforms.

As demand for resilient and sustainable materials grows across the manufacturing sectors, aluminium continues to emerge as a critical enabling material for future European defence capabilities. Through its contribution to the ECV initiative, Elval reaffirms its commitment to innovation, collaboration, and the advancement of European shipbuilding and defence technologies, while also highlighting the Greek industry's growing contribution to Europe’s strategic industrial future autonomy.
